Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent a short-circuit accident between commutator segments due to dusts, etc., by insulating side faces of the segments for forming a commutator arranged in a cylindrical state by mounting insulation members made of mica, glass and synthetic resin. CONSTITUTION:The commutator device comprises a commutator formed by arranging commutator segments 2 in a cylindrical state, and a commutator body 5 for supporting the commutator on a rotary shaft through a one side end stepped body insulator 6. Particularly, the entire side face of the segment 2 is insulated by mounting an insulating member 10 made of integrally molded mica, glass and ambient temperature or heat curable synthetic resin. Accordingly, the commutator is thermally elongated and shrinked by thermal influence to move to a riser 1 side or an opposite side to the riser 1. Thus, even if gaps are generated between both end faces of the segments 2 and a stepped part of the insulator 6 and a contact face with a binder layer 8, the segments are not short-circuited due to dust, etc., containing carbon dust as a main content.
