Abstract | PURPOSE:To downsize a torque converter, increase the service life thereof, and fully meet the acceleration request at the start of a driver. CONSTITUTION:The output of an engine 1 is transmitted to a speed change mechanism part 3 through a converter 2. A brake 19 to connect/disconnect a stator 16 of the torque converter to/from a case 20 is provided, and the brake is applied in a sudden start of a vehicle by a switching operation means 73, while being released in a slow start of the vehicle. The switching operation means is preferably formed by a detecting means 72 to detect whether the vehicle is in a sudden start condition or in a slow start condition from the running element of the accelerator opening or the like, and a hydraulic control circuit 71 to control the switching of the connecting/disconnecting means based on the signal of the detecting means. |
