Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a selective calling receiver capable of protecting surely a reception message even when a complicated protection operation is not implemented. CONSTITUTION:A selective calling signal sent from a base station is received by an antenna 1 and inputted to a code collation circuit 4 via a radio circuit 2 and a dethodulation circuit 3. The code collation circuit 4 collates an individual number code read from a storage section 5 with an individual number code included in the received selective calling signal and sends a protection attribute code and a message code in succession to the individual number code to a ring tone message control circuit 10 when they are coincident. When the protection attribute code is set, the ring tone message control circuit 10 stores the received message to a memory 11 while setting the protection attribute.
