Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a dimming material whose dimming function is hard to deteriorate irrespective of use for a long time and its manufacture. CONSTITUTION:This is a dimming material constituted of a transparent base plate and dimming film comprising water-soluble polymer such as poly-N- isopropil acrylic amide which is laminated on the base plate, shows sol.gel transfer and has different optical transmission according to a sol state and gel state and water contained into the water-soluble polymer, which is constituted of a water-soluble polymeric substance where the water-soluble polymer is crosslinked by applying electron rays to the water-soluble polymer. Then since the crosslinked water-soluble polymeric substance becomes meshy structure, a change of volume at the time of the sol.gel transfer is controlled and water is shut up in the meshy structure, prevention of aging deterioration of its dimming function becomes possible.
