Abstract PURPOSE:To provide the magnetic disk having magnetostatic characteristics sufficient for realizing a large storage capacity and to provide its production method. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic disk is formed by laminating a first layer substantially consisting of Cr and a second layer essentially consisting of Cr for a magnetic recording medium formed on the substrate. The face of the crystal forming the first layer is oriented substantially parallel to the substrate. The first layer of this magnetic disk is formed while an electric voltage is applied between the substrate and the chamber of a film forming device so as to apply negative potential to the substrate by 100 to 300V to the chamber.
