PURPOSE:To provide a gripping device which enables simplifying the configuration and reducing troubles. CONSTITUTION:A gripping device 7 to grasp a vessel 1 is composed of a first movable block 13 mounted on a frame 11 with possibility of elevating and sinking, a second movable block 17 installed on the first block 13 with possibility of advancing and retreating, and a gripper 21 which is secured to the second block 17 and is capable of being opened and shut. The first block 13 is elevated and sunk by an air cylinder device 14, while the second block 17 is moved right by the repulsive force generated between a magnet 28 of the block 17 and magnet 26 of the frame 11 if the first block 13 lies at its top position and is moved left by the attracting force generated between the magnet 28 and a magnet 27 of frame 11 if the first block 13 is in its bottom position. The gripper 21 is opened by the repulsive force of magnets 33 installed on grippers 21, which are shut by inserting between the magnets 33 an attracting member 34 to be attracted thereby.
