Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compounds having high purity suitable, e.g. as a monomer for synthesis of polymers or a raw material for production of medical and agricultural drugs with industrial advantage by reacting an aromatic dihydroxy compound with a carboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of a specified amount of a tertiary amine. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydroxy compound (e.g. resorcinol) represented by the formula (R is halogen, 1-5C alkyl or phenyl; (m) and (n) are integer of 0-2; R in (R)m may be mutually different in case of (m)=2) is allowed to react with a carboxylic acid anhydride (e.g. acetic anhydride) in the presence of a tertiary amine (e.g. pyridine) in an amount of >=0.01 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. aromatic hydroxy compound, at 100 deg.C for 1hr. After the carboxylic acid, e.g. acetic acid as a by-product is distilled off, the reactional product is purified by vacuum distillation, thus obtaining the objective carboxylic acid phenyl ester (e.g. resorcinol diacetate) in a high yield. |
