Summary:PURPOSE:To make a case body and a ribbon take-up axis slide relatively so as to release rotation lock means automatically by providing a lever for pressing a sidewall of the case body of a ribbon cartridge on a side plate of a video printer cassette. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon cartridge 1 houses a pair of ribbon take-up axes 3a and 3b slidably in the axial direction and comprises rotation lock means consisting of a gear 4 and a claw 5 to be engaged with the gear between the ribbon take-up axis 3a and a case body 2. A side plate 11a in a cassette is provided with rotation lock release means 20 having a rigid axis 21 and a lever 22. The lever 22 is formed in a bell crank of which other end is connected to a positive cam 27 through a drive wire 24 and a spring 25. At the time when the cartridge 1 arrives at a image printing position and ends of the axes 3a and 3b abut against wear plates 40a and 40b, the lever 22 presses a sidewall 2c of the case body 2 with rotation of the positive cam 27, so that the case body 2 slides toward a side plate 11b. Thus, the engagement of the gear 4 and the claw 5 is released.
