Abstract PURPOSE:To manufacture a good cast slab without developing buckling at short side part even in comparatively light rolling reduction by giving roll crown having the similar shape as recessed part in inner wall of long side and gradually reducing the crown rate to zero as it goes downstream. CONSTITUTION:At first, the cast slab 3 is cast in a continuous casting mold 1 so that thickness T0 at center part thereof is thickener than thickness T1 at edge parts and the rolling reduction is executed until the thickness at the center part of cast slab 3 is made to equal as the thickness T1 at the edge parts in the process during which solidification progresses. Therefore, by setting the thickness T1 at the edge part to the thickness corresponding to that of the finished cast slab in consideration of solidifying shrinkage rate, in order to obtain the cast slab 3 having the prescribed thickness, the rolling reduction is executed only to the center part of cast slab. Therefore, even in the cast of applying the rolling reduction at the end stage of solidification, the finished cast slab can be formed with extremely little value of the rolling reduction force. That is, as it is unnecessary to execute the rolling reduction to the solidified part at the short side part in the solidified shell, there is no apprehension to develop the buckling double fold, and the rolling reduction force can do with the light rolling reduction for deforming only the shell at unsolidified part.
