Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the output of an engine by forming first and second exhaust routes in a continuous curvature, across the front and rear sides of mating faces. CONSTITUTION:A combustion chamber 24 is connected to a second exhaust route 18 formed on a cylinder block 17, via an exhaust port 13 that is opened and closed by an exhaust valve 31 driven by a valve driving mechanism C, as well as first exhaust routes 16a-16c formed on a cylinder head 15. The exhaust routes 16a-16c are extended in a letter-U shape from an exhaust port 31, all in the same form, until they open to a mating surface 151 of the head 15, while the exhaust route 18 is recessed as a groove 181 in the shaft direction of a crank shaft 4, along a mating surface 171 of the block 17. The exhaust routes 16a-16c as well as the exhaust route 18 are smoothly curved by approximately 90 deg. across the front and rear sides of the mating surfaces 151, 171, from the direction perpendicularly to the mating surfaces 151, 171, to the direction in parallel thereto, whereby an exhaust air is guided from the routes 16a-16c to the route 18, so as to be discharged to an exhaust tube without receiving a large channel resistance.
