Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the recognition precision by changing the threshold for binarization of an image signal in accordance with the horizontal scanning line position of a screen corresponding to the three-dimensional position of an object. CONSTITUTION:A window circuit 6 generates a lamp window 26 for tunnel inside illumination, a road surface window 27, or the like, and a binarization threshold determining circuit 7 uses information of tunnel inside illumination, road surface density, or the like to determine the threshold for binarization of each horizontal scanning line position of the screen and uses the threshold obtained by a binarizing circuit 3 to binarize picture data in a buffer memory 8. Binarized data is stored in a frame memory 4, and a processing circuit 5 processes data in the frame memory 4 to recognize a vehicle or the like. Thus, the threshold for binarization is automatically determined in accordance with the change of circumstances, and the image processing device of high recognition precision is obtained.
