Summary:PURPOSE:To attempt to improve the activity of a catalyst by treating an Mg compd., a Ti compd. and a halogenated compd. in the presence of one or a plurality of specified alkoxyesters. CONSTITUTION:A Ti compd. (a) such as TiCl4, an Mg compd. (b) such as MgCl2 and a halogenated compd. such as PCl5 and an alkoxyester compd. of formula I (wherein R<1-2> are each a hydrocarbon group or a heterocyclic ring; Y and Y' are each a hydrocarbon group; Z is an arom. or a heterocyclic compd.), such as 2-(methoxymethyl)benzoic acid (c), are mixed at a molar ratio of a/b/c=1/1 to 1,000/10<-6> to 100 and heat-treated to obtain a solid catalyst component (d). Then, the component (d) and an org. Al compd. (e) of formula II (wherein R<3-5> are each a 1-12C hydrocarbon group, etc.), such as triethylaluminum, are added in such a way that the component (e) is 10<-4>mmol/l or larger and the molar ratio of e/d is 0.5 or larger, and 0.001-5mol of a stereospecificity improving agent such as phenyltrimethoxysilane based on one mol of the component (e) is added thereto to polymerize an olefin such as ethylene at -10 to 180 deg.C.
