Summary:PURPOSE:To measure the levelness/perpendicularity of a surface to be measured readily and accurately by attaching piece of string to one end of the main body of a transparent tubular casing having one reference line which is in parallel with an axial line, providing a weight at the tip end of the string, and filling the casing with two liquids which have the different colors and specific gravities and are not soluble to each other. CONSTITUTION:When the levelness of a substance to be measured is confirmed, a level 1 is set in the horizontal state, and a flat surface 4 is brought into contact with the material to be measured. When an interface 16 between first and second liquids 9 and 10 agrees with a reference line 5 of a main body 3 of a casing under this state, it is confirmed that the substance to be measured is in the level state. When the perpendiculrality of the substance to be measured is confirmed, the level 1 is set at the vertical direction and the flat surface 4 is brought into contact with the substance to be measured. When a string 7 agrees with the reference line 5 of the main body 3, the perpendicularity of the substance to be measured is confirmed. It is recommended to use, e.g. olive oil, for the first liquid 9 and to use, e.g. water, for the second liquid.
