Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid absorbing member of a good processing adaptability and an excellent durability by arranging a water absorbing high polymer resin around an exhaust port as a liquid absorbing material. CONSTITUTION:At the part of the exhaust port 3 of a lead storage battery which has a complicated form in order to bury inter cells and polarities in an adhesive, a device in which a cap-form valve 2 is installed is prepared, and a liquid absorbing resin (CS-5L made by Aqualic Japan Catalyst Chemical Co., for example) is formed in the shape responding to the groove at the periphery, and provided around the valve device. Since a water absorbing high polymer is placed around the exhaust port 3 in such a way, the electrolyte leaked from the exhaust port 3 is absorbed and its flowing-out from the battery is prevented. And since the liquid absorbing member can be made into various forms, the electrolyte is absorbed much better. Consequently, a claim of flowing-out of the electrolyte can be reduced.
