Summary:PURPOSE:To enhance charging efficiency and to furthermore enhance charging efficiency when a water absorbing polymer is dissolved with sulfuric acid by using plates coated with the water absorbing polymer as the plate of a lead-acid battery. CONSTITUTION:Paste prepared by kneading lead oxide, water, and dilute sulfuric acid is filled in a grid made of Pb-Ca-Sn alloy and its surface is coated with a water absorbing polymer. As the polymer, sulfonated polyvinyl family synthetic resin is used. The polymer is dissolved so as to become about 10wt.% in sulfuric acid having a specific gravity of 1.10 to obtain jelly-like polymer, then this polymer is applied onto the plate so as to have a thickness of about 0.2mm with a roller, and the plate is dried, then formation is conducted to obtain a positive plate. A grid made of Pb-Ca alloy is filled with paste prepared by kneading lead oxide, water, dilute sulfuric acid, barium sulfate, and organic fibers, and the same jelly-like polymer as being used in the positive plate is applied onto the plate, and dried, then formation is conducted to obtain a negative plate. Dilute sulfuric acid having a specific gravity of 1.30 is used as the electrolyte.
