Summary:PURPOSE:To accurately detect the abnormality of a knock sensor without any response delay by deciding the abnormality of the knock sensor according to the voltage signal generated by subtracting a reference voltage from a knock decision voltage. CONSTITUTION:A knock decision voltage generating means M2 adds the reference voltage to the value generated by integrating the output signal of the knock sensor M1 and outputs the knock decision voltage corresponding to the amplitude level of the output signal. A knock detecting means M3, on the other hand, makes a knock decision according to the value obtained by adding the reference voltage to the output signal of the knock sensor M1 exceeds the knock decision voltage. Then the abnormality of the knock sensor M1 is detected through the operation of a pressure reducing means M4 and an abnormality detecting means M5 according to the voltage signal generated by subtracting the reference voltage from the knock decision voltage. Consequently, the abnormality of the knock sensor is accurately detected without any response delay.
