Abstract To stably measure a surface temperature of a steel material as an object of temperature measurement by excluding temperature-measurement inhibitors.SOLUTION: A surface temperature measurement method is for measuring a surface temperature of a steel material as an object of temperature measurement by a radiation thermometer. The radiation thermometer is arranged in a housing having an optical window, and an angle formed between an optical axis of the radiation thermometer and a normal direction to a surface of the steel material as the object of temperature measurement is an angle of 60° or less. The optical window is arranged on the optical axis of the radiation thermometer, and an angle of inclination is 30 to 90° in the gravity direction.
