Abstract To provide a reader which can suppress reduction of the quality of an image and a method for controlling the reader.SOLUTION: A reader 11 includes: a reading unit 25 for reading a manuscript; and a control unit 31 for executing calibration and calibrating the reading unit on the basis of the calibration data obtained by the calibration.
