Abstract To solve a problem in a sheet feed type scanner that, when it is miniaturized, a size of a sub supply tray becomes smaller so that it is hard to appropriately support a manuscript to be transported.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: a device body having a reading unit for reading an image of a manuscript to be transported; a manuscript supporting unit which is positioned upstream of the reading unit, and supports the manuscript to be transported; and a deployment supporting unit which can be housed and deployed to/from the manuscript supporting unit, and supports the manuscript to be fed together with the manuscript supporting unit by being deployed from the manuscript supporting unit.
