Abstract | To provide a display device and a method for display that can display a picture input by displaying more pixels than the pixels of a display element while maintaining the level of the resolution of the picture and also can secure the gradation performance by ensuring the time for displaying a predetermined gradation.SOLUTION: A display device includes: a swing unit having an optical unit for receiving light; an actuator for swinging the swing unit; a processing unit for controlling a display element on the basis of image data; and a driving unit for driving an actuator in synchronization with processing of the processing unit. The processing unit controls the display element so that the first sub-frame groups of the sub frames of the first frame of the image data will be sequentially displayed within the time of displaying the first frame, and controls the display element so that second sub-frame groups, which are different from the first sub-frames, of the sub frames of the second frame will be sequentially displayed within the time of displaying the second frame subsequent to displaying the first frame.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
