Abstract To provide a technique capable of recovering iodine at a higher recovery rate from aromatic iodine compounds having an iodine group by a desorption and purification method.SOLUTION: An aromatic iodine compound is deiodinated in the presence of a platinum group element-supported fiber catalyst, an alkali and a reducing agent under mild conditions at ambient temperature and pressure, and then the fibrous catalyst is rapidly removed to separate and recover iodine from the deiodinated liquid. The catalyst support is an anion-exchange fiber that can be quickly taken out of a reaction system.
