Abstract To provide a variable magnification optical system which is downsized and has good optical performance, and an imaging apparatus comprising the variable magnification optical system.SOLUTION: A variable magnification optical system comprises: a first lens group having positive refractive power, a plurality of lens groups, and a final lens group having positive refractive power arranged in order from the object side to the image side.
