Abstract | To provide an authentication system and authentication method capable of improving authentication accuracy.SOLUTION: An authentication system X comprises a database 13, a receiving unit, an authentication unit, and a transmitting unit. The authentication unit has: a first authentication method for authenticating an image subject P1 by collating all biometric information Ua with image information P1a; and a second authentication method that includes an individual authentication method for authenticating an image subject P2 by identifying registration information Ub corresponding to identification information P2b of the image subject P2 and collating the biological information Uat associated with the identified registration information Ub with the image information P2a.
