Abstract To provide a photoelectric conversion element having superior durability, and a composition for photoelectric conversion layer formation to obtain such a photoelectric conversion element.SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element has a photoelectric conversion layer between a pair of electrodes. In the photoelectric conversion element, the photoelectric conversion layer contains a surface-preparation agent represented by the general formula (1) below, and semiconductor particles.
