Abstract | To provide an image capturing optical system which is compact and yet offers high resolution.SOLUTION: An image capturing optical system has multiple lens groups, each comprising lens components having multiple optical surfaces. Each lens component has two optical surfaces in contact with air and at least one optical surface is a curved surface. The multiple lens groups comprise, in order from the object side, a first lens group having positive refractive power, a second lens group having negative refractive power, and a third lens group having positive refractive power. Only the second lens group moves toward the image side when shifting focus from a far point to a near point. The first lens group comprises, in order from the object side, a negative first lens component, a negative second lens component, and multiple positive lens components. The second lens group has a negative lens component. An aperture stop is provided in the first lens group.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
