Abstract To make it possible to obtain an unnaturally bright image by automatic exposure control by an imaging apparatus without the need for complicated operations by a user.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has a first imaging element for capturing an optical image of a subject obtained through a polarization filter having regions having a plurality of different polarization angles, information acquisition means for acquiring polarization information of the subject based on a plurality of pieces of image data based on signals output from the first imaging element, light metering means for performing light metering, and exposure control means for controlling exposure when capturing an image of the subject and acquiring image data based on a result of light measurement by the light metering means. The plurality of pieces of image data is a plurality of pieces of image data with different polarization angles obtained through regions having a plurality of different polarization angles of the polarization filter.
