Abstract | To provide an information processing system and a search method for searching for documents related to a target substance to be generated and a gene related to a metabolic pathway that are adapted to intention of retrieval of a user.SOLUTION: An information processing system selects a main metabolic map containing a route most similar or identical to an input metabolic pathway from a database 261 of a metabolic map into which information on an input metabolic pathway is input and represented by a directed graph whose edge is an enzyme that acts when going from a compound of a reaction source toward a compound of a reaction destination with a reaction compound that is a metabolic reaction being a node, selects a compound around the input metabolic pathway as a peripheral compound therefrom, generates a search expression based on information on the selected peripheral compound and information on the compound and the enzyme related to the input metabolic pathway, and performs document search from a document database 270.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
