Abstract To provide a sterilizer capable of effectively sterilizing a grip rod of a handrail without requiring manual work, and a handrail equipped with the sterilizer.SOLUTION: A sterilizer 2 includes a moving portion that moves in the length direction of the grip rod 10, an ultraviolet irradiator 23 that emits ultraviolet rays, and a housing 20 that internally supports the moving portion and the ultraviolet irradiator 23. The surface of the grip rod 10 is sterilized by irradiating the surface of the grip rod 10 with ultraviolet rays from the ultraviolet irradiator 23.
