Summary:To provide an electrochromic device that has high responsiveness in performing color developing and reducing driving, high uniformity of color optical density, and high strength and safety against an impact from the outside, is excellent in durability when being driven continuously for a long time, and can reduce power consumption.SOLUTION: An electrochromic device comprises: a first auxiliary electrode and a second auxiliary electrode that have an average distance therebetween of 100 mm or less; a first electrode; a second electrode; an electrochromic layer; a solid electrolyte layer; and control means that applies voltage in any one drive pattern of a first drive pattern, a second drive pattern, and an initialization drive pattern.
