To provide a driving unit and its mounting method which are capable of improving the mounting workability of the driving unit to a mounting object.SOLUTION: A restricting member 80 is configured to restrict the rotation of a drum 60 when a lock member 74 fixes a pulley 71 at a first position P1 and to permit the rotation of the drum 60 when a coil spring 73 moves the pulley 71 to a second position P2. This makes it possible to disable the rotation of the drum 60 before a driving unit 30 is attached to a vehicle body (on-vehicle mounting ready state). Therefore, it is possible to prevent a pair of cables 23 and 24 from loosening in a drum housing and being caught by other components. Thus, the mounting workability of the driving unit 30 to the vehicle body can be improved.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 【課題】駆動ユニットの取り付け対象物への取り付け作業性を向上させることができる駆動ユニットおよびその取り付け方法を提供する。【解決手段】規制部材８０は、ロック部材７４がプーリ７１を第１位置Ｐ１で固定したときにドラム６０の回転を規制し、コイルスプリング７３がプーリ７１を第２位置Ｐ２に移動させたときにドラム６０の回転を許容するようになっている。これにより、駆動ユニット３０を車体に取り付ける前の状態（車載準備状態）において、ドラム６０を回転不能にすることができる。したがって、ドラムハウジング内で一対のケーブル２３，２４が弛んで他の構成部品に引っ掛かるようなことを防止することができる。よって、駆動ユニット３０の車体への取り付け作業性を向上させることが可能となる。【選択図】図７
