Abstract | To provide a storage system and a data management method for a storage system, which allow duplication of data to be excluded in an entire system.SOLUTION: In the storage system provided with a plurality of storage devices each of which is provided with one or a plurality of logical volumes, one storage device out of the plurality of storage devices is configured to perform optimal arrangement operation processing of: calculating, with respect to each of the storage devices in a plurality of combinations between the storage devices and logical volumes in the storage system, a data capacity resulting of excluding duplication of data on the basis of data information of data requested to be written into the logical volumes in the storage system; calculating sum totals of calculated data capacities as total capacities in the entire storage system; and outputting information indicative of a combination giving the smallest total capacity out of the plurality of combinations.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
