To provide a gas generator which enables a preset load to act on a gas generating agent.SOLUTION: A gas generator 1 includes: a housing 10; an igniter 40; a filter 80; a gas generating agent 71; and an upper restriction member 100 which restricts a gas generated during burning of the gas generating agent 71 from flowing through a gap between the filter 80 and an upper wall 32 to the outside of the filter 80.
