Abstract To enable polygon surface being scanned to be properly detected even if noise occurs in a synchronous signal.SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus is provided that is connected to an image forming apparatus including: a laser beam source receiving image data and outputting light; a photoreceptor; a polygonal mirror which has a plurality of reflection planes and rotates to deflect the laser beam using the plurality of reflection planes and scans the photoreceptor; and a generation part that generates a marking BD signal in accordance with the deflected laser beam. The information processing apparatus receives a marking signal and determines whether or not the received marking signal is a signal corresponding to a specific reflection plane out of the reflection planes of the polygonal mirror.
