Abstract | To enable polygon surface being scanned to be properly detected even if noise occurs in a synchronous signal.SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus is provided that is connected to an image forming apparatus including: a laser beam source receiving image data and outputting light; a photoreceptor; a polygonal mirror which has a plurality of reflection planes and rotates to deflect the laser beam using the plurality of reflection planes and scans the photoreceptor; and a generation part that generates a marking BD signal in accordance with the deflected laser beam. The information processing apparatus receives a marking signal and determines whether or not the received marking signal is a signal corresponding to a specific reflection plane out of the reflection planes of the polygonal mirror. The information processing apparatus, when the marking signal is the signal corresponding to the specific reflection plane, identifies that the reflection plane reflecting the light is the specific reflection plane (S101:Y,S102), and in other case (S101:N), identifies that the reflection plane reflecting light is a reflection plane to be scanned subsequently to the identified reflection plane (S105).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
