Abstract | To provide an automatic transmission which can be downsized in a front and rear direction and in a vertical direction, and which can reduce vibration.SOLUTION: In an automatic transmission 1, a transmission case 2 has an opening on a frontward-falling inclined surface disposed at an upper part of the front end of the case, and the opening is formed on the transmission case 2 such that an opening face thereof is inclined diagonally upward from the front end of the transmission case 2 toward the rear end. The transmission case 2 has a first plate member 32 covering the opening, and a second plate member 39 disposed above the first plate member 32 and on the front end side of a transmission body 1A. A shift and select shaft is diagonally attached to the transmission case 2 so that the front end thereof is positioned below the lower end. The second plate member 39 has a planar vertical wall part 39A extending in the vertical direction at the front end of the transmission case 2, and a planar horizontal wall part 39B extending in the horizontal direction orthogonally from the vertical wall part 39A.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
