Abstract To provide means that can suppress air from intruding from a tank into a head even if a liquid level sensor fails.SOLUTION: The liquid discharge device reads out identification information from a memory of an IC substrate 247 in response to attachment of a cartridge 200 thereto, reads out ink quantities Vc and ink quantities Vs corresponding to the identification information from an EEPROM 134 and calculates a threshold Non the basis of the read-out ink quantities Vc and Vs.
