Abstract | To provide an elevator capable of determining not only a kind of a passenger using a wheelchair but also various passenger kinds of passengers, using a multi beam sensor.SOLUTION: An elevator 30 comprises: a multi beam sensor 50; a sensor controller 60 for outputting a signal indicating a height position of a light reception tool 52a at a highest position of light reception tools 52a which did not receive light projected from a projection tool 51a arranged at the same height position so as to face in a prescribed period; a load cell 35 for detecting a load of passengers in a car 20; and an elevator controller 10. The elevator controller 10 detects a height of a top edge of passengers who get on/get off the car 20 based on a signal output from the sensor controller 60 in a prescribed period, and determines passenger kinds of the passengers who get on/get off the car based on the height of the top edge detected in the prescribed period and the load detected by the load cell 35.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9A
