Abstract | To improve the thermal efficiency of an engine.SOLUTION: A control method for an engine 1 includes a first fuel supply step (6041) in which, at a timing when an ignition part (a spark plug 25) arranged in a combustion chamber 17 creates kindling in the combustion chamber, a fuel supply part (an injector 6) supplies fuel into the combustion chamber to form air-fuel mixture having A/F or G/F leaner than a theoretical air-fuel ratio at least around the ignition part, an ignition step (6042) in which, after the first fuel supply step, the ignition part creates the kindling in the combustion chamber in a compression stroke, and a second fuel supply step (6043) in which, after the ignition step, the fuel supply part supplies the fuel into the combustion chamber so that the fuel concentration of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber becomes rich in the compression stroke.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
