Abstract | To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device that has a high degree of freedom of design, which allows miniaturization and can ensure the brightness of an image.SOLUTION: A first transparent member 12 is arranged between a reflection type liquid crystal display panel 2 and a polarization beam splitter 15, and a first refraction film 10 is formed on a second surface 12b of the first transparent member 12 that faces the polarization beam splitter 15. A main beam of linearly polarized light (P-wave) incident on the inside of the first transparent member 12 from a first surface 12a of the first transparent member 12 is not totally reflected on a boundary surface between the first refraction film 10 and a lower air layer 14a and is refracted toward a light transmission/reflection surface of the polarization beam splitter 15.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
