Abstract | To provide an inexpensive catalyst with high activity, which is included in an anode for generating oxygen by water electrolysis, contributing to the reduction of overvoltage of the anode in order to reduce power loss effectively.SOLUTION: A catalyst comprises a particle of geothite with the cobalt content 5-45 mol% of iron and Tafel's gradient 26-55 mV/dec. The average length of the longwise axis of the particle of geothite is 50-200 nm. The BET specific surface area is 100-300 m/g.EFFECT: The particle of geothite is inexpensive because of having little amount of expensive cobalt in comparison with a catalyst material such as ruthenium oxide, iridium oxide, or iron hydroxide included in the conventional catalysts, and has high activity with small Tafel's gradient.SELECTED DRAWING: None
