Abstract To provide an image forming apparatus that can accurately execute, when necessary, processing for reducing the frictional force between image carriers and cleaning members.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 comprises: image carriers 1; cleaning members 61 that are in contact with the image carriers to remove toner from the image carriers; driving sources 21 that drive the image carriers; speed detection means 24 that detect the rotation speed of the image carriers; and control means 31 that can execute frictional force reduction processing for reducing the frictional force between the image carriers and cleaning members.
