Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering system including a member susceptible of rupturing that ruptures upon receiving an impact and capable of preventing rupture of the member caused by an impact applied during telescopic adjustment.SOLUTION: A second toothed member 50 is configured to change its position between a meshing position where first teeth 41 mesh with second teeth 51 and a meshing releasing position where the first teeth 41 do not mesh with the second teeth 51. A first toothed member 40 and a facing member 81 move together with an upper jacket 7. The second toothed member 50 located at the meshing position receives an impact from the first toothed member 40 so as to collide against an impact absorbing member 110 after rupture of a guide shaft 61 and deform the impact absorbing member 110.
