Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress combustion noise by properly performing combustion by compression self-ignition.SOLUTION: A control device of a compression self-ignition type engine 1 controls compression self-ignition by ignition. The control device comprises an intake dynamic valve mechanism 23 which can change the valve-closing timing of an intake valve 21, a controller 10, and an ignition plug 25 for igniting an air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber 17. The controller 10 is constituted so as to operate an engine 1, and combusts an unburned mixture by the ignition of the ignition plug 25 in a state that an effective compression ratio of the engine 1 is set lower than a geometric compression ratio by the intake dynamic valve mechanism 23.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 18
