Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of acquiring an addition signal while suppressing waste of an optical signal.SOLUTION: The first charge holding unit, in a state in which charges generated in the photoelectric conversion unit are held during a first period, holds the charges generated in the photoelectric conversion unit during a second period which is not continuous with the first period and is different in length from the first period.
