Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a cleaning operation before a recording operation when changing a recording mode.SOLUTION: An ink jet recording device comprising a recording head which has a nozzle arrangement area in which plural nozzles for discharging an ink are arranged, and which performs a recording operation for recording on a recording medium, and cleaning means which contacts the recording head and performs a cleaning operation, in which a change operation by which an area which the recording medium passes is changed with respect to the nozzle arrangement area.
