Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately expand an airbag according to a collision situation of a pedestrian.SOLUTION: A pedestrian protection device comprises: a right airbag device 20R; a left airbag device 20L; G sensors 30a to 30b (collision position detector); a vehicle speed sensor 32 (vehicle speed detector); a steering angle sensor 34 (steering angle detector); and an ECU 40 (controller) that controls the activation of each airbag. The airbags 22R and 22L have tip parts 26 which are vertically overlapped with each other respectively at the center of a vehicle 1 during expansion. The ECU 40 executes the following: to estimate a moving direction of a pedestrian who collides with the vehicle 1; based on the estimation result, to determine an airbag device to be activated and its activation timing between the airbag devices 20R and 20L; and based on the determination result, to control the activation of each of the airbag devices 20R and 20L.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
