Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet light emitting device capable of achieving high brightness and controllability of light emission center wavelength by using an ultraviolet light emitting phosphor based on a rare earth aluminum garnet crystal.SOLUTION: There is used an ultraviolet light emitting phosphor which contains rare earth aluminum garnet crystal (LuY)(AlZ)O, where 0≤x≤1, 0<y≤1, Z is B, Ga, In, Tl, as a base and to which at least 2 or more kinds of rare earth ions other than Lu and Y, forming light emission center is co-added. Each added amount of added rare earth ions is adjusted to have addition ratio for providing a target light emission center wavelength in an ultraviolet range of 240 to 400 nm. Light emission center wavelength and brightness are adjusted with at least one of x and y as parameter. There are provided the ultraviolet light emitting phosphor and a means for irradiating excitation light to the ultraviolet light emitting phosphor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】希土類アルミニウムガーネット結晶をベースとした紫外発光蛍光体を用いて、高輝度と発光中心波長の制御性を同時に実現できる紫外発光デバイスを提供する。【解決手段】希土類アルミニウムガーネット結晶(LuxY1−x)3(AlyZ1−y)5O12(但し、0≦x≦1、0<y≦1、ZはB,Ga,In,Tl)をベースとして、発光中心を形成する2種以上のLu,Y以外の希土類イオンが少なくとも共添加された紫外発光蛍光体を用いる。添加する希土類イオンの各添加量は、240〜400nmの範囲の紫外域で目標とする発光中心波長になるように添加比率が調製される。また、xとyの少なくとも一方をパラメータとして発光中心波長および輝度が調製される。上記の紫外発光蛍光体と、紫外発光蛍光体に対して励起光を照射させる手段を備える。【選択図】図1
