Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop membrane separation and more suppress deterioration in permeation flux when the membrane separation is reopened.SOLUTION: A method for using a separation device that treats a liquid to be treated, which is discharged from a step of producing a phenol resin and contains water and phenol, with a membrane separation section having a zeolite membrane that selectively permeates water therethrough includes: a membrane separation step of performing a membrane separation treatment of separating water from the liquid to be treated using the membrane separation section; and a liquid discharge step of discharging a liquid from the membrane separation section until the next membrane separation treatment starts after the stop of the membrane separation treatment. In the liquid discharge step, a pressure in the membrane separation section is preferably reduced.SELECTED DRAWING: None
