Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To incorporate an air maintenance feature within a tire that will self-maintain the tire air pressure in order to compensate for any reduction in tire pressure over time.SOLUTION: An air maintenance tire assembly comprises: a tire having a tire cavity, and first and second sidewalls 18; an elongate groove 32 located within the first sidewall 18, the groove comprising an elongate channel 34 and an elongate groove access passage 40 extending at an incline from the channel 34 to an access opening 42 located at an outward surface 58 of the first sidewall 18; a tube 56 positioned within the groove channel 34; and a cover strip 46 attached to the first sidewall 18 and enclosing the access opening 42.
