Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately calculate an actual VCT phase even when reverse rotation occurs while an engine is being stopped (in a period in the course of the rotation of the engine being stopped).SOLUTION: While an engine is being stopped, an actual VCT phase is calculated on the basis of a cam angle signal and a crank angle signal. At this time, when the engine rotates normally, the actual VCT phase is calculated on the basis of a phase difference between a specific cam angle signal and the crank angle signal at an advanced crank angle position A at input timing of the crank angle signal at the advanced crank angle position A after the specific cam angle signal is input. On the other hand, when the engine rotates reversely, the actual VCT phase is calculated on the basis of a phase difference between the specific cam angle signal and the crank angle signal at a retarded crank angle position B at input timing of the crank angle signal at the retarded crank angle position B after the specific cam angle signal is input.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
