Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polypeptide derived from Coccoidea [Ceroplastes ceriferus Fabricius.] having hemolytic activity and cytotoxicity.SOLUTION: The invention provides a polypeptide derived from Ceroplastes ceriferus Fabricius. containing the amino acid sequence represented by GSGSVLVRNSGGYVATFSMA, and a hemolytic composition containing the polypeptide. The invention relates to a hemolysis method comprising contacting the polypeptide or the composition to a liquid sample containing red blood cells, and to a cytotoxic composition containing the polypeptide, as well as to an antitumor composition containing the polypeptide. The method of obtaining the polypeptide comprises fractioning a sample obtained by homogenizing entire Ceroplastes ceriferus Fabricius. by a suitable chromatography to separate the fraction representing hemolytic activity.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
